Webinar | Disrupting the School to Prison Pipeline, Part 2

DISRUPTING THE SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE, PART 2

The purpose of the Webinar, which was the second in a two-part series, was to discuss practical and effective solutions courts and educational institutions have implemented to tackle this significant problem in our communities, particularly with respect to children of color.

Our distinguished panelists include Hon. Kathie E. Davidson, Dean of the New York State Judicial Institute; Hon. Steve Teske, Chief Presiding Judge, Clayton County, GA (Ret.) and current Deputy Prosecutor, Pascua Yaqui Pueblo Tribe, AZ; and Mr. Valentin Escanuela, M.Ed, San Diego County Office of Education and Executive Leadership Coach. The event was moderated by Retired Judge Ernestine Steward Gray, Orleans Parish Juvenile Court.

Participants will learn:

  1. What they, as judicial officers, can do to ensure fairness and equity for vulnerable populations;
  2. What innovative programs courts are participating in that have been found to be successful in disrupting the school to prison pipeline;
  3. Ways in which school districts can be brought in as justice partners within our juvenile courts; and
  4. What, if any, costs are incurred in implementing these innovative programs.
