On April 7, lifetime NAWJ member Judge Arline Pacht passed after a long illness. Here is the link to her obituary.

The Honorable Arline Pacht was a United States Administrative Law Judge, a lifetime member of NAWJ, and instrumental in creating the International Association of Women Judges. In 1989, at the request of Justice Joan Dempsey Klein, co-founder of the National Association of Women Judges, NAWJ invited international women judges to attend its Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Judge Pacht issued the invitations, handled arrangements for the international judges, and planned the program for the fifty-four women judges from thirty countries who attended the meeting.

Working by herself from her home in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Judge Pacht organized a cadre of international women judges who formed the IAWJ in 1991.

We are planning a tribute to Judge Pacht in the summer issue of Counterbalance, if you wish to contribute to the feature, please contact Judge Heather Welch.
