NAWJ Past President, Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, Honored with the ABA's Prestigious Margaret Brent Award

On August 27, 2020 the American Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession presented NAWJ Past President and Chief Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Honorable Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, with its Margaret Brent Award honorees. Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby, an NAWJ member since 1996, was president of NAWJ for its 2013-2014 year. She is a tireless and enthusiastic supporter of all NAWJ members, and the programs and initiatives they champion. In 2014, she was instrumental as an NAWJ voice in raising awareness on judicial independence at the national level. Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby chaired the District of Columbia Courts’ Standing Committee on Fairness and Access, and served on the District of Columbia’s Access to Justice Commission. She was the Chair and Moderator of the National Consortium on Racial and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts. On May 13, 2020 Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby joined the Chief Justices of California, Iowa and Michigan in for NAWJ’s first webinar, “Courts on the Frontline: Providing Access to Justice While Protecting Public Health During a Pandemic.”
