The Honorable Judge Joan Weber, a longstanding NAWJ member, and Past President of the California Judges Association was selected as this year’s California Women Lawyers (CWL) Joan Dempsey Klein Distinguished Jurist Award honoree for:
Excellence as a jurist;
Longstanding vigorous service; and
Inspiration to the women lawyers of California
Like the Honorable Justice Joan Dempsey Klein, Judge Weber is also a pioneer among women judges and is a strong advocate for women’s rights. In a similar spirit to Justice Klein, Judge Weber was the driving force behind the NAWJ, CWL and the California’s Women’s Legislative Caucus in 2019 for the #WETOO in the California Workplace presentation. Judge Weber has served the legal community and the court in countless ways, including as supervising and presiding roles on our bench, and as a Master in her Inn of Court. Judge Weber has received countless honors including national recognition by the American Bar Association Pursuit of Justice Award in 2016. In addition to her involvement in the legal community, Judge Weber spearheads training and presentations for her colleagues in her endless quest to make us all better jurists. Another daily activity for Judge Weber is her encouragement of the many female attorneys that appear before her, and her judicial colleagues to reach high. It is especially fitting to see this honor bestowed upon our colleague, as it gives us pause to once again pay tribute to Justice Joan Dempsey Klein whose inspiration and spirit will long live within us.
